Air Date: 09-29-2005
Episode 3 stars on day 7 of the 39 day adventure. While the tribe at Yaxha is sleeping Lydia Morales is up early gathering firewood. She's trying to prove her value to the tribe. From tribal interaction it's clear that Brianna Varela and Lydia Morales don't get along and Lydia Morales feels Brianna Varela should be the next one to be eliminated. Brian Corridan confesses that it was entirely his doing last week that caused Morgan McDevitt to be voted off. Meanwhile at Nakum the sleeping conditions are pretty difficult. A howler monkey has taken up residence in very close proximity to their base camp. This is causing a lot of tribe members to have difficulty sleeping in particular Judd Sergeant. Cindy Hall who is a zookeeper informs the tribe he is actually lost and his calls are a help call to his tribe so he can reunite with them, a fact which does nothing to ease Judd's mood.
For the reward challenge the tribes are going to race against each other to build an archeologists tent. The difficulty is they will have to gather the pieces while blindfolded and taking direction from another tribe member. The reward will be blankets, a lamp, oil, and a large tarp. Gary Hogeboom does the calling for Yaxha and Cindy Hall does the calling for Nakum. Yaxha is able to secure all of the pieces first and remove their blindfolds and start assembling the tent. However they have difficulty figuring out how to put it together. This gives Nakum a chance to catch up. Both teams are neck and neck and having difficulty securing the ropes for the roof. Eventually Nakum wins the reward challenge, send a dejected Yaxha tribe back to camp.
Back at Yaxha camp Stephanie is pretty depressed about losing the challenge. However the tribe gets over the loss pretty quickly and begins bonding. They are all complaining about how dirty they have become and how frustrating it is that the water is so close and they can't swim in it because of the crocodiles. Meanwhile at Nakum the tribe is considering using the tarp to reconstruct a better shelter but finds it impossible to work in the oppressive heat. Bobby Jon Drinkard , Danni Boatwright, Judd Sergeant and Brandon Bellinger decide to take the boat out onto the lake and go for a swim in the water. Cindy Hall feels this is very dangerous as the water is probably teeming with crocodiles. Bobby john is the first into the water, and is joined by Danni Boatwright, Judd Sergeant and Brandon Bellinger. While it was risky they feel it was worth it.
The corn mash they have been eating for 7 days is beginning to get on Yaxha's nerves. Looking for something new Rafe Judkins decides to start eating termites and is joined by Gary Hogeboom. Stephanie remarks she isn't going to be friends with either of them now. Nakum is now debating about how to use the tarp to build a shelter. Margaret Bobonich starts to give direction and orders, which doesn't sit well with some of the men particularly Judd Sergeant and Bobby Jon Drinkard. While they attempt to build a lean-to they end up with more of a flat circus tent like structure.
When tree ail arrives they it comes with body paint, feathers, and they figure out they will be playing a version of an ancient Mayan game similar to basketball. Nakum jumps ahead to a 3 to 1 lead. While playing the game Amy O'Hara twists her ankle and is playing with a disability. Stephanie is in the game with Brianna Varela and Lydia Morales. She asks them to run a basketball play they have no idea what she is talking about, this inexperience causes them to lose the round. Danni Boatwright scores the last point giving Nakum their second immunity in a row.
Back at camp both Lydia Morales and Brianna Varela are starting to become worried. Brianna Varela makes a last ditch effort to save herself by asking Stephanie for help. The tribe seems to be in agreement on who is going on the way to tribal council
