Austin Carty is the twenty-two year old Author of Somewhere Beyond Here. He resides in High Point, NC, where he was born and raised. Carty spent his collegiate days playing soccer at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Here he wrote numerous short stories, essays and newspaper articles, but never quite found the time to pursue his true dream: writing a novel. After leaving Liberty in the spring of 2002, Carty moved to Atlanta, GA, where he pursued a modeling and acting career. Not knowing anyone in Atlanta, and finding himself with a vast amount of downtime, Carty decided it was probably, now or never. He sat down at his computer in August of 2002, and now, more than a year later, his dream has come to fruition. After having finished the novel, Carty has realized that writing is indeed his true passion. With his rough manuscript in hand, he moved from Atlanta back home to High Point, NC- a move he considers to be the best decision of hislife. Carty has spent the last several months editing and reediting the novel and has now finally deemed the project 'complete.' In the meantime he has been blessed enough to appear on the critically acclaimed television show 'One Tree Hill,' and has had the opportunity to model for various national and international campaigns such as Hanes Underwear, John Deere and General Tire. Now, Carty is marketing Somewhere Beyond Here and praying for the best. He says, 'Even if the book flops, it will always be a very special project for me. The book is dedicated to my mother, and is based on a promise I made her when I was a little boy. I have already been overly compensated for the work I put into this book, just by the look I saw on her face when I handed her my rough manuscript. And for those of you who are taking the time to read my story and browse my sight- I can't thank you enough. May the Lord bless you all.'

The Kinston Free PressAustin Carty of High Point, 22-year old author of his self-published book, 'Somewhere Beyond Here,' will sign copies of his book from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Book Depot in Kinston. As a child, Carty went to see the 1986 animated film, 'An American Tail,' with his mother, Mausty Carty. She made him promise that one of the movie's songs, 'Somewhere Out There,' always would be their song. When he heard the song after her death, he said, 'I could know she was looking down on me from heaven.'That promise was Carty's inspiration for the book. The novel centers on an elderly man who made a similar promise and his coming to grips with lessons of love and loss and rekindling his faith in God.At 5, Gray Taylor promised his mother she always would be his 'best girl.'
